We had a lovely group of family and friends, Skip, his two daughters, and two friends of theirs. Two adults and 3 teenage girls…………. The girls have not been off-shore fishing before ------- this was a great day for them to go since it was an absolutely beautiful day, with calm seas, a slight breeze and lots of sun.
We picked away at the Dolphin along the change early, and then put out the skip baits and started trolling for whatever came along. We had a nice Blue Marlin come up behind the long shotgun…………it’s always so exciting to see that bill come up following a bait ----- we tried to switch him off to a bigger bait but he wouldn’t have that, he wanted the long shotgun…….he was hooked up but in the fight, he came off.
At the end of the day Capt. Dave saw a Sailfish free jumping off in the distance over the bow of the boat, so he thought he would go check it out. Generally, a free jumping Billfish is not looking for food and won’t take a bait………Well, who knows if it was the same one but about 5 minutes later we saw a sailfish on the right flat-line. He turned away from that bait and went onto the right long rigger, then we saw another Sail-fish on the short shotgun………… We got them both on the hook and brought them to the boat……… Skip and Tammy did a wonderful job catching and releasing a double header of Sails. Skip has been fishing for 18 years, but has never had a Billfish in the baits ---- he had a chance at two Billfish and caught one.
