Skip Bloxman - 5.22.11

Skip, Jimmy, Les, Yankie and Ray were fishing today.  They are from Gloucester, VA and are waterman, commercial fisherman and crabbers themselves.  This year will be 30 years fishing with Capt. Dave. Skip started on a boat when Dave was a mate and has followed him from boat to boat over the years.

They had a wonderful day on the water.  For some of them it was a nice day off from working a boat, but for Ray it was a great day off working with Heath and getting in the middle of it all.  Ray loves working on his "pleasure day" on the boat.

We set out on the100 fathoms with Mana-rays and Makos jumping and fished North to the edge of the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream has been pushing up for the past couple of days.  We had 7 - 8 Gaffer Dolphin bites but only got one to the boat, then a White Marlin came finning in to the flat line but didn't take the bait.  By 8am we had several bites but only one Mahi-Mahi in the box. Capt. Dave thought that someone was playing a joke on him and put rubber hooks on the lines.  He saw some Yellow-fin Tuna's jumping, fished over to them and has several bites.  A Mako shark came finning in onto the long rigger just like a Blue Marlin, but clipped the back of the hook, took his free food and swam away.

Skip et all ended up with a great day. We look forward to seeing them in August.  On Tuesday, I will post a photo of a model of the High Return that Skip has spent hundreds of hours and a year building ---- I just hope that I can do it justice in the photo..... thanks Skip.
